In an action-packed day full of engaging activities such as spear making, bush tucker walks and face painting with traditional ocre clay, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich Aboriginal culture, learning about the traditions and culture of the original custodians of this land. The Gumaraa Rangers will introduce your students to the history of the Aboriginal culture, sharing Dreamtime stories, how they used tools and made shelters, and help them understand the Aboriginal kinship structures, both past and present.

The day kicks off with a meet and greet with our knowledgeable Aboriginal Gumaraa Rangers, before enjoying an interactive and engaging presentation. Students will be drawn into an open discussion about Aboriginal Australians, and gain an appreciation for the ancestral culture that has occupied this land for over 40,000 years. They’ll hear stories from the Dreamtime, hear firsthand stories about living on traditional lands, and see, feel and touch Aboriginal artefacts to learn how Indigenous Australians engage with their culture and lands.

On this action-packed day, the experienced Gumaraa Rangers will teach your students about bush tucker, let them try their hand at boomerang throwing, and even partake in a traditional Ochre Ceremony. Among the cute and cuddly native Australian animals at Symbio Wildlife Park, your students will be able to learn about the world’s oldest surviving culture in the most vibrant setting! In a day jam-packed with up-close encounters to a variety of different animals your students will learn the significance and connection of native Australian animals to Aboriginal people. The Gumaraa Rangers will help your students explore the connection Aborginal people have with their land, and the history and traditions of their culture. Throughout the day students will observe traditional Aboriginal tools, weapons and artefacts, and participate in discussions about art, music and dance.
