About

Immerse your students within a wide range of authentic and interactive Indigenous experiences as they spend a day diving into one of the world’s oldest surviving cultures! Your students will take an active role on this practical and engaging Indigenous excursion as they learn about the Aboriginal land in which they live, work and play on.

Following an interactive introductory presentation examining genuine Aboriginal artefacts, students will witness a traditional smoking and ochre ceremony before exploring bush tucker and medicine on an informative and highly interactive bushwalk. Led by our expert Indigenous Guides with their wealth of knowledge and expertise, students will also have opportunities to make their own string, play deadly games, listen to Dreaming stories and even have a go at boomerang throwing!

This excursion will address the dynamic nature of Aboriginal cultures and analyse the factors that influence non-Aboriginal peoples’ range of perceptions of Aboriginal Peoples and cultures. By identifying the special relationships Aboriginal people have with their land, this authentic cultural experience explores the ways in which Aboriginal Peoples maintain identity and the significance of the roles of Aboriginal Peoples locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Throughout the day, students will analyse the factors that influence non-Aboriginal peoples’ range of perceptions of Aboriginal Peoples and investigate the varying factors that contribute to a person’s personal, cultural and national identity.

There is no better way to learn about our precious Aborginal culture and identity than on this authentic and immersive Gumaraa experience.
