Syllabus Content Focus

Students examine the features and patterns of urban areas in Australia and other countries. They explore the reasons for internal and international migration patterns and the effect of population movements on places. Students investigate issues related to the management, and future, of urban places.

Day Outline

Arrival / Morning Tea / Toilet Break
10:00am – 10:25am Enjoy morning tea while meeting our rangers, who will guide students through the day’s activities.
Students split into groups of 30-35 and rotate through the first two activties
10:25am – 10:45am Kick off the day with an introduction to Chinatown and ‘Changing Places’ as theme for the day.
10:45am – 11:35am Activity 1
11:35am – 12:25pm Activity 2
12:25pm – 12:55pm  Take a lunch break while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of Chinatown.
12:55pm – 1:45pm Activity 3
1:45pm – 2:00pm Reflect on the day’s activities before departing for the bus.

Urban Planning and Gentrification activity: Roll up your sleeves and become an urban planner! With maps in hand, compare old and new Chinatown, tracing the changes in streets, businesses, and infrastructure, and see how gentrification has reshaped this vibrant part of Sydney.

Fieldwork on place identity: Get ready to rate Chinatown’s coolness factor! You and your team will investigate the livability of this unique place by scoring its accessibility, walkability, and overall vibe, showing how the area serves both locals and tourists.

10am meet in the middle of Tumbalong Park Darling Harbour.

Bus Pick Up Location
2pm bus to pick up in any bus bay surrounding Tumbalong Park Darling Harbour.

+GST. As this program is an educational service, all GST charged can be reimbursed in its entirety by the Government. This price excludes transport. (Minimum charge of x35 students).
