Day Outline

Arrival / Morning Tea / Toilet Break
10:00am – 10:25am Meet our enthusiastic Rangers at Tumbalong Park and enjoy morning tea.
Students split into groups of 30-35 and rotate through the first two activties
10:25am – 10:45am Begin the day with an introduction to the theme of ‘Interconnections’ and how it relates to Chinatown.
10:45am – 11:35am Activity 1
11:35am – 12:25pm Activity 2
12:25pm – 12:55pm  Lunch
12:55pm – 1:45pm Activity 3
Wrap-Up/ Conclusion:
Reflect on the day’s activities and insights into global interconnections before departing for the bus.

Activities

Cultural Connections Walk: Discover how global interconnections have shaped Chinatown’s culture. Through this guided walk, students will observe cultural influences, such as food, language, and architecture, and understand how migration and trade have created a melting pot of traditions that link Sydney to other parts of the world.

Economic Interactions and Globalisation Mapping Activity: Students will dive into the economic interconnections within Chinatown by comparing old and modern maps to trace changes in businesses and infrastructure. They’ll explore how local markets and international trade networks impact Chinatown’s development, linking it to global economic systems.

Fieldwork on Place Identity: Students conduct a liveability survey, evaluating how Chinatown’s unique identity is shaped by its connections to global migration and tourism. This hands-on activity highlights how local and international interactions influence accessibility, services, and the area’s cultural relevance.
