About

Meet a koala, get up close and personal with a slithery snake and watch as our kangaroos and wallabies are hand fed in an intimate virtual excursion with our amazing Rangers! Through the power of technology, students will be transported from their schools, bedrooms and living rooms to the grounds of Symbio Wildlife Park as they embark on an exciting and exclusive virtual adventure. Led by our experienced Rangers, students will be taken on a fully guided tour of Symbio Wildlife Park where they will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of our amazing furry, scaly, and feathery friends! Students will discover a range of living things and identify their characteristics, needs, behaviours, and the environments in which they live. Students examine native and exotic animal species in custom enclosures that mimic native environments whilst recognising the contrasting external features of a variety of animals. With a focus on the basic needs of living things, students immerse themselves within a range of environments whilst getting up close and personal to Australian and exotic animals. Every student will be engaged and eager to participate in this fun and memorable program!

Syllabus Content Focus

Key Inquiry Questions:

  • How can living things be used to meet our needs?
  • What do living things need to survive?

Characteristics and basic needs of living things
Students:

  • recognise that living things have basic needs including air, food and water (ACSSU002)
  • compare the basic needs of some plants and animals
  • participate in guided investigations to identify living things and the external features of plants and animals in the local environment
  • communicate findings of observations of living things in their environment

Activities

Students, Teachers and Rangers will all join the Zoom session at the allocated time.

  • The virtual excursion kicks off with a meet and greet with one of our enthusiastic Ranger Jamie guides reporting LIVE from behind the scenes from Symbio Wildlife Park.
  • This is followed by an exciting introductory presentation that includes an exclusive, live animal presentation
  • Live teacher + student interaction with Ranger Jamie.
  • Opportunity to get up close and personal with the animals.
  • Fully guided tour of the entire zoo! Tour can be tailored to individual needs.
Koala & Zoo Keeper Experience
  • Intimate Koala enclosure encounter
  • Live interview with a Symbio zookeeper

Special Note

Teachers will be required to moderate the zoom. We recommend that Teachers open a live chat for students to interact with our Rangers by typing comments, reactions and questions. The teacher can then pass on any student questions to the Ranger for them to answer!
