Activities

Activities: We will run x5 of the below activities. You are able to choose which activities suit your cohort best and customise your experience.

Introduction (altogether): The day kicks off with a meet and greet with our enthusiastic Rangers. During this part of the day, we will ensure that students are arranged into groups of approx. x30-35 students with x2 teams per group. We will encourage each team to come up with a team name, dance and/or chant and hand out child-friendly face paint for students to paint their faces in their team colours / patterns.

Students will then rotate through x5 activities in their groups. Each group will have x1 Ranger and have the opportunity to complete each activity. Each activity will go for roughly 30-35 minutes.
Please note:

  • We will organise the activities around your bell-times.
  • For any water-based activities, we recommend that students bring a change of clothes.

Challenge 1: Billy Cart Championships: Students in teams will be racing against each other on a racecourse on your school grounds. Students observe forces firsthand including friction and gravity and how these forces are challenging their movements within this competition. This fantastic experience will enable your students to learn how to conquer forces whilst working together in teams building their communication skills, balance and fitness.

Challenge 2: Launching Air Pressure Rockets: Ever dreamed of launching a rocket so far up into the atmosphere you couldn’t see it? Focusing on the force of ‘air pressure’ we bring the fun to you! Students design and build their very own rocket before launching their spacecraft into the sky above the rooftops using a specially designed high pressure industrial rocket launcher. Guaranteed to get the adrenaline pumping, students will watch in awe as they witness their rockets roar into the sky. Through championship competitions with their friends, students will monitor the highest rockets, learning how each shape and design affects performance. A unique, engaging and action-packed activity focusing on pressure and its effects on everyday materials.

Challenge 3: Slip N Slide: If you don’t want Summer to end or just want to have a great day of water fun then our Slip n Slide is the choice for you. A great summer activity, our Slip N Slide will have students speeding one by one for the finishing line with a splash. Using a large, smooth, plastic sheet, our Rangers will liberally apply child-friendly soap and water from a hose to create the slide. Students will line in for their turn and step up one by one for the ride of their life. This activity will be set up on a soft, flat, grassy area and will be controlled to ensure safety and maximise fun. Instructions will be given to students before and during the activity so that expectations are clear on what is and isn’t appropriate behaviour. Students will be instructed to 1. Participate one by one to avoid any collisions, 2. Only approach Slip N Slide while lying on their stomachs, 3. Never stand up or go backwards on the Slip N Slide, 4. Only approach Slip N Slide when instructed to by the Ranger or Teacher and never before, 5. Vacate the Slip N Slide and move swiftly back to the end of the queue following their turn.

Challenge 4: Water Bucket Challenge + Tug-of-war: Students are challenged to collect and transport water across a designated area using the power of teamwork. Using small buckets, students will collect water from a large tub and pass this water along to their peers until it reaches its destination, a second large tub. Will students’ hands be steady enough to ensure no water is spilt? The team with the most water at the end is hailed as the champions. This is followed by a game of Tug of War that will test students’ strength and teamwork.

Challenge 5: Blanket Volleyball Challenge: Students play a game of volleyball using blankets and soft balls. Can students successfully move the ball across the net and keep it from touching the ground? This is a challenge of teamwork and fitness that will have all students laughing and engaged.

Challenge 6: Tower Building Challenge: Students participate in a tower building challenge using PVC pipes, tape and any other materials they can source. Who can build the tallest or most robust tower?

Challenge 7: Ball Sports Challenge: Students participate in a three-part ball challenge with the aim of using teamwork to score as many points as possible. Using different balls and equipment, students work together and strategise all while having fun!

Challenge 8: Chemical Rockets: This is the perfect STEM experiment. Here students are given an array of materials to launch a rocket using vinegar and bi-carb soda. Using their knowledge of solids, liquids and gases from the morning presentation, students race against the clock to be the first team to successfully launch their rocket 10m into the air. This task is challenging and extremely stimulating. The best way to explore HEAT and its effects on our states of matter.

Challenge 9: Ninja Warrior Pool Relay Race: In this action-packed activity, students will form teams in a friendly and fun competition against the clock. Using a small splash pool filled with objects, students will have to work together to complete the Ninja Warrior obstacle course.

The day will conclude with a quick wrap up where each team’s scores will be read out and celebrated. We will also announce the champions (altogether).
