Join us for an unforgettable adventure at Bonnie Vale, where your students will be immersed in a hands-on exploration of water’s vital role in our ecosystems, all while meeting key syllabus objectives! They’ll dive into the fascinating world of water, examining its physical and chemical properties, distribution, and management across various environments.

- assessment of variations in freshwater water availability between continents
Water scarcity & water management
Students:
- investigate the nature of water scarcity and ways of overcoming it, for example: (ACHGK040)
- description of the nature, extent and causes of water scarcity in different countries
- assessment of strategies used to overcome water scarcity and the role of governments, non-government organisations, individuals and communities in sustainable water management
- proposal of individual actions contributing to water management
The value of water
Students:
- investigate the economic, cultural, spiritual and aesthetic values of water for people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and/or peoples of the Asia region, for example: (ACHGK041)
- description of the ways water is used by people eg agricultural, commercial, industrial and recreational uses
- comparison of the importance of water to ONE Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community and/or ONE Asian community

Gather for an engaging introductory presentation, where we’ll set the stage for the day’s exploration and learning. |
Students split up into groups of approximately 30 and alternate the following activities: | |
Activity 10:40am – 11:30am |
During this hands-on pH water testing activity, students will analyse the water quality of Sydney’s waterways, gaining valuable insights into the importance of maintaining clean water resources for the community |
Activity 11:30am – 12:20pm |
Students participate on guided bush walk, stopping intermittently to answer questions in their work booklet. |
12:20pm – 12:50pm Lunch / Toilet Break at Bonnie Vale Picnic Area (approx. 25 minutes) |

Students participate in our guided crab catching activity, stopping intermittently to answer questions in their work booklet. |
1:40pm – 1:50pm | Gather for a wrap-up and reflection session, celebrating the day’s achievements and key takeaways. |

Activities
Bush Walk: Embark on an exhilarating bush walk through the wetlands, where your students will explore the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this rich environment! Along the way, they’ll discuss management strategies employed by local stakeholders to protect these vital ecosystems, understanding how collaboration fosters sustainability.
Crab Catching: Get ready for an exciting adventure as your students try their hand at crab catching in this wetland! They’ll experience the thrill of connecting with marine life while learning about the essential role these creatures play in maintaining the health and balance of our wetland ecosystems.
