Set at the scenic and secluded Garie beach within the pristine Royal National Park, this hands-on and action packed excursion is the perfect location to explore the the functioning of varying environments and the scale of human-induced environmental change challenging sustainability.

Originally used during European settlement as farmland for cattle grazing, this now transformed and highly protected National Park location is an ideal case study for students. Through interactive activities, students will analyse and examine the causes and consequences of change in environments and how these places can be managed in sustainable ways. Students will examine the design of an eco-friendly car park and the architecture of a surf club to gain a deeper understanding of environmental processes and interconnections essential for sustainable management. They will explore nearby protected Aboriginal Middens and investigate worldviews influencing approaches to environmental use and management.

Students will also have opportunities to actively carry out hands-on fieldwork throughout this ‘Environmental Change and Management’ experience. Using an array of geographical tools including quadrats, dip nets, field sketches, maps, graphs, statistics, images, anemometers and temperature gauges, students will participate in a range of fun and engaging activities on this interactive outdoor adventure.
