Hovercraft Academy (Strengthening resilience and identity)
Levels 3-4
Health and Physical Education Incursion
Strengthening Resilience & Identity | Victorian Curriculum Levels 3-4
Transform your school hall into a buzzing innovation zone, where your students work side-by-side to build a giant, fully functioning (and epic!) hovercraft. This is a deeply moving journey designed to nurture the identity of each student, perfectly aligned with the Victorian Curriculum Health and Physical Education (Levels 3-4).
Guided by our expert Rangers, your students step into leadership roles that encourage them to move beyond their comfort zones. They explore the Personal, Social, and Community Health strand in real-time, discovering that true strength lies in persistence, empathy, and a shared growth mindset.
Throughout the experience, an Empowerment Journal provides a quiet space for your students to process emotions, celebrate their unique strengths, and find their voice. Watch as they discover the "bounce-back" resilience needed to face challenges with grace. They will leave with a deeper sense of self-belief and the collaborative spirit to rise together.
Please find the structure for the 2hr workshop as listed below:
Part 1: Strengthening Identity
Students receive their Empowerment Journals and identify personal strengths. They explore how individual mindsets prepare them to tackle the ultimate hovercraft challenge as a cohesive unit.
Part 2: Resilience in action
Teams apply critical and creative thinking to build and problem-solve. When technical challenges arise, students practice “bounce-back” grit and persistence to keep the project moving forward.
Part 3: Respectful relationships
As the build intensifies, students examine how their behaviour and communication influence their ability to work as a team. They focus on breaking down social barriers to ensure an inclusive construction zone.
Part 4: Building wellbeing
Students use their Empowerment Journals to reflect on Self-Management. They analyse how their attitudes and emotional regulation impact both their personal well-being and the group’s success.
Part 5: Identity & Belonging Lift-off
It’s time to ride! Students lift off and glide, celebrating the shared success of the hovercraft challenge. This high-energy finish strengthens identity and belonging, with students taking home their Empowerment Journal to cement their growth.

FAQS
What is a hovercraft?
A hovercraft is a vehicle that operates by forcing air beneath the craft to create lift, allowing it to glide on a cushion of air. In our program, it only works when students collaborate, communicate, and problem-solve together, engineering both the hovercraft and a strong sense of wellbeing and teamwork.
What space/ equipment do I need to prepare?
One thing only: a large hall space with a polished timber floor or smooth polished concrete. If you are unsure about your floor, you can send us a picture or give us a call to discuss.
We handle the rest, bringing all hovercraft equipment and materials, plus a get-to-keep Empowerment Journal for every student.
Do all of your staff hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)?
Yes, of course. All Ranger Jamie staff hold current, valid Working With Children Checks and complete all required child safety training. We’re happy to provide documentation in advance upon request for your peace of mind and compliance.
What time will the Rangers arrive?
Our Rangers arrive approximately 45 minutes before the session to get everything adventure-ready. If parking is available close to the school hall, it certainly helps with a smooth and efficient setup.
I need a Risk Assessment. Where can I find this?
A comprehensive, fully compliant Risk Assessment is provided upon booking. It’s designed to meet school requirements and support planning and approval processes, and yes, it’s principal-approved.
Will my students have fun?
1,000 YES. And we guarantee you will too.
