HSIE Excursion
Set sail on Sydney’s iconic harbour and launch your students into an unforgettable outdoor adventure. This exciting, hands-on experience blends cruising, exploring, and discovering as students connect with the natural world in a truly meaningful way.
From a scenic harbour cruise to stepping ashore for action-packed activities, students will explore living and non-living things, and discover how people interact with and care for special places. Every moment is designed to spark curiosity, inspire care, and turn learning into an experience they’ll never forget.

Please find our day outline as follows:
10am- 2pm (4 hour)
10:00am – Arrival at Garrison Church
Meet your Rangers and get ready for a day of adventure!
10:00am – 10:30am – Walk to Circular Quay
A gentle stroll to the harbour, with morning tea and toilet breaks along the way.
10:30am – 10:55am – Exciting Introduction
A fun kickoff session before lining up to board your private harbour cruise.
10:55am – 11:30am – Harbour Cruise Adventure
Cruise through Sydney Harbour, spotting iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge before arriving at your beach location.
11:30am – 12:15pm – Activity 1
12:15pm – 12:45pm – Activity 2
12:45pm – 1:15pm – Cruise Back to Man O’ War Steps
Enjoy live trivia and fun commentary onboard as you sail back.
1:15pm – 1:45pm – Lunch at the Opera House Steps

People use geographical information to understand climates and environments
- Identify polar, continental, temperate, tropical and dry climate zones in the world in relation to the equator and poles;
- Identify and compare climate zones in Australia using choropleth maps showing temperature, humidity and vegetation;
- Compare seasonal rainfall in places in Australia and display data in column graphs;
- Locate and compare deserts, forests, mountain ranges, rivers, ocean trenches and volcanoes of Australia and the world using grid and relief maps and compass directions north, south, east and west;
- Describe ways Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples map Country and Place;
- Describe settlement patterns in Australia using satellite images;
- Draw conclusions about how climate influences settlement patterns in Australia;
- Identify and describe significant natural and cultural environments of the world using Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary;
- Compare natural and human features of Australia with another country.
People have responsibility to care for Australia’s environments
- Observe and describe ways people organise places into spaces for different purposes;
- Compare the objectives of managing places for conservation and managing places for sustainability;
- Describe how reserved lands are managed in New South Wales at Mungo National Park, Kosciuszko National Park, Wollemi National Park and Barrington Tops National Park;
- Identify strategies that minimise waste and make the most of resources to sustain environments;
- Investigate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander food practices that are sustainable.
The cost of this excursion varies depending on how many students you bring along, the more students attending, the lower the cost per person!
Our pricing framework for Captain Cook Cruise programs is based on the total number of primary school students booked for the day.

FAQS
How many students can we bring along?
Our pricing works on a “the more, the merrier (and cheaper per head)” basis.
Here are our two vessel sizes:
- Up to 90 students
- Up to 180 students
What equipment/ materials do we need to bring?
Students bring their essentials: food, water bottles, sports uniform, and any required medication. We take care of all of the materials and equipment on and off board.
What is the wet weather policy?
We cruise in the sheltered waters of Sydney Harbour, rain, shine, or under dramatic skies. Our boats offer comfortable indoor seating with large viewing windows, and if the weather turns, the program continues fully onboard.
If you need to change your scheduled date, please let us know at least 7 days in advance to avoid cancellation fees.
