Syllabus Content Focus
Key Inquiry Questions:
- How does the environment support the lives of people and other living things?
- How do different views about the environment influence approaches to sustainability?
- How can people use places and environments more sustainably?
Significance of environments
Students:
- investigate the importance of natural vegetation and natural resources to the environment, animals and people, for example: (ACHGK021, ACHGK022, ACHGK024)
- identification of types of natural vegetation eg forests, grasslands, deserts
- explanation of the importance of natural vegetation to animals and the functioning of the environment eg provision of habitats, production of oxygen
Perception of environments
Students:
- investigate the ways people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, value environments, for example: (ACHGK022, ACHGK023, ACHGK024)
- discussion of why people value environments differently eg cultural, agricultural, commercial, recreational values
Protection of environments
Students:
- investigate sustainable practices that protect environments, including those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, for example: (ACHGK023, ACHGK024, ACHGK025)
- examination of how environments can be used sustainably eg sustainable agricultural, commercial and recreational practices sustainability
- discussion of ways waste can be managed sustainably
Activities
Students, Teachers and Rangers will all join the Zoom session at the allocated time.
- The virtual excursion kicks off with a meet and greet with one of our enthusiastic Ranger Jamie guides reporting LIVE from behind the scenes from Symbio Wildlife Park.
- This is followed by an exciting introductory presentation that includes an exclusive, live animal presentation
- Live teacher + student interaction with Ranger Jamie.
- Opportunity to get up close and personal with the animals.
- Fully guided tour of the entire zoo! Tour can be tailored to individual needs.
Koala & Zoo Keeper Experience
- Intimate Koala enclosure encounter
- Live interview with a Symbio zookeeper

Special Note
Teachers will be required to moderate the zoom. We recommend that Teachers open a live chat for students to interact with our Rangers by typing comments, reactions and questions. The teacher can then pass on any student questions to the Ranger for them to answer!
