About

Your students will never look at STEM classes in the same way after this fun-packed excursion! Filled with hands-on experiments to give your students first-hand examples of push and pull forces in action, everything about this excursion is interactive and allows the students to explore how objects move and react to force. They can get their hands dirty making slime, investigate how different strengths of forces affect everyday objects by making rockets, and test their knowledge of energy through the Ranger Jamie Olympic Games. Students will be able to witness and discuss the simple ways they use push and pull forces in everyday life, allowing them to further develop their understanding of forces and energy and how they can be used for specific purposes in products.

Day Outline

Rangers arrive at your school for approx. 8:30am for set up.
Incursion duration 9:30am- 2:30pm
Introductory Presentation The day kicks off with a meet and greet with our enthusiastic Rangers before enjoying an interactive and engaging presentation.
(approx. 30-40 minutes)
Grouping: Students are divided into their groups of approximately x 30 students and are allocated a Ranger guide for each activity. Each activity is on a rotational basis.
Activity 1 Students participate in each activity for approximately 40 minutes.
Activity 2 Students participate in each activity for approximately 40 minutes.
Activity 3 Students participate in each activity for approximately 40 minutes.
Activity 4 Students participate in each activity for approximately 40 minutes.
School scheduled break times (lunch and recess) remain as usual.

Activities

INTRODUCTION:
(In Hall) The day kicks off with a meet and greet with our enthusiastic Rangers before enjoying an interactive and engaging science presentation. Students will be chosen from the audience to participate in fun experiments in front of their peers which will have your students engaged and laughing for hours. Selected students will be invited up to dress in real science uniforms such as lab coats, goggles and gloves whilst we explore the everyday role of scientists and their importance in our community. Students investigate how forces and energy are used in products as well as describe the effects of push and pulls on objects they encounter. This interactive presentation ends with a BANG! with over 1000 ping pong balls launching into the air your students will absolutely love this unforgettable experience.

ACTIVITY 1: Billy Cart Championships
Students in teams will be racing against each other on a race course on your schools grounds. Students observe how push and pull energy control the movement of billy carts. This fantastic experience will enable your students to learn how to conquer forces whilst working together in teams building their communication skills, balance and fitness.

ACTIVITY 2: Push and Pull Olympics
Students are split in two teams working together to race each other in a competitive game against the clock. This highly competitive competition will have your students shouting, screaming and cheering on their peers as the teams discuss strategies and tactics on how to beat their competitors. Students discuss the answers and problem solve the questions based around push and pull forces.

ACTIVITY 3: Launching Air Pressure Rockets-
Ever dreamed of launching a rocket so far up into the atmosphere you couldn’t see it? Focusing on ‘push forces’ we bring the fun to you! Students design and build their very own rocket before launching their spacecraft into the sky above the rooftops using a specially designed high pressure industrial rocket launcher. Guaranteed to get the adrenaline pumping, students will watch in awe as they witness their rockets roar into the sky. Through championship competitions with their friends, students will monitor the highest rockets, learning how each shape and design affects performance. A unique, engaging and action packed activity focusing on pressure and its effects on every day materials.

ACTIVITY 4: Slime Bonanza
Students will LOVE getting their hands all dirty and slimy with this activity. Here students will be changing the shape of an object by applying a push and pull force to it such as squashing and stretching it. Students will be stretching the slime, and punching it to compact the slime to identify the properties of forces. The best part= students get to take the slime home with them.
