Transport Has Changed Over Time At Sydney Tramway

HSIE Excursion

Get ready to take your classroom straight to the tracks!

Step inside the Sydney Tramway Museum and explore some of Australia’s oldest trams as students travel back in time to learn how transport has changed over the years.

They’ll enjoy the scenic ride through Sutherland and feel like explorers as the tram heads into the National Park. With hands-on learning, engaging stories and plenty of excitement, it’s a memorable day your students will always remember!

Arrival / Morning Tea / Toilet Break
Approx. 20 minutes – Students arrive, enjoy a quick snack and stretch their legs before the adventure begins.

Welcome & Introductory Presentation
Approx. 25 minutes – The day kicks off with a warm Ranger Jamie welcome and an engaging presentation that gets students excited for their journey through time and transport.

Students are split into groups of approximately 30-35 and paired with their very own Ranger guide for the experience.

Tram Ride Through the Royal National Park
Approx. 30 minutes – Students hop aboard and travel through the beautiful National Park with their Ranger and Sydney Tramway volunteer, discovering how transport connects people to places.

Tram Ride through Sutherland
Approx. 30 minutes – A return journey through changing landscapes as students observe natural and human features along the way.

Museum Tour
Approx. 40 minutes – Students explore historic trams, learn how transport has changed over time, and discover fascinating stories of the past with their Ranger and Tramway volunteer.

Lunch / Toilet Break
Approx. 25 minutes

Grand Tour Tram Ride (All Together)
Approx. 30 minutes – Everyone boards the tram for a final ride, bringing together all they’ve learned in a fun, memorable journey.

Wrap-Up / Conclusion / Toilet Break
Approx. 20 minutes – A friendly Ranger Jamie farewell and final chance for bathrooms before heading back to school.

This excursion is run at The Sydney Tramway Museum in Loftus.

FAQS

How many teachers/helpers do I need on my excursion?

The more grown-up sidekicks, the better! We recommend at least one teacher/parent helper per class. No extra cost for teachers or parent helpers on this program.

What equipment/ materials do we need to bring?

Students should bring morning tea, lunch, water bottles, and any required medication. We suggest sports uniform and comfortable shoes. We supply all the materials and equipment needed for your day.
