Water scarcity & water management

    • assessment of strategies used to overcome water scarcity and the role of governments, non-government organisations, individuals and communities in sustainable water management

The value of water
Students:

Introductory Presentation
10:25am – 10:40am
Gather for an engaging introductory presentation, where we’ll set the stage for the day’s exploration and learning.
Students split up into groups of approximately 30 and alternate the following activities:

During this hands-on pH water testing activity, students will analyse the water quality of Sydney’s waterways, gaining valuable insights into the importance of maintaining clean water resources for the community
Activity
11:30am – 12:20pm
Students participate on guided bush walk, stopping intermittently to answer questions in their work booklet.
12:20pm – 12:50pm
Lunch / Toilet Break at Bonnie Vale Picnic Area

Students participate in our guided crab catching activity, stopping intermittently to answer questions in their work booklet.
1:40pm – 1:50pm Gather for a wrap-up and reflection session, celebrating the day’s achievements and key takeaways.

2pm Depart on bus back to school

Activities

pH Testing: Dive into the science of water quality with hands-on pH testing! Your students will uncover the secrets of local water sources, learning how acidity levels impact ecosystems and the organisms that call them home.

Bush Walk: Embark on an exhilarating bush walk through the wetlands, where your students will explore the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this rich environment! Along the way, they’ll discuss management strategies employed by local stakeholders to protect these vital ecosystems, understanding how collaboration fosters sustainability.

Crab Catching: Get ready for an exciting adventure as your students try their hand at crab catching in this wetland! They’ll experience the thrill of connecting with marine life while learning about the essential role these creatures play in maintaining the health and balance of our wetland ecosystems.
