Hovercraft Institute (Building Respectful Relationships, Identity, Belonging, and Change)

Stage 4
PDHPE 2-Hour Incursion

Respectful Relationships & Identity | NSW Stage 4 PDHPE

Challenge your students to bridge the gap between individual potential and collective success as they build a giant hovercraft. This experience breaks down social barriers, specifically designed to hit NSW Stage 4 PDHPE outcomes on Identity and Belonging.

Guided by our expert Rangers, students navigate high-pressure rotations within the Health, Wellbeing and Relationships strand. They’ll analyse how their evolving identity influences group cohesion and practice the communication skills essential for Building Respectful Relationships.

Using an Empowerment Journal, students reflect on their social influence and "bounce-back" resilience. They leave with a sophisticated understanding of their strengths and the maturity to lead through complex team dynamics.

It’s time to ride! Students lift, race, and glide in their own hovercraft, an adrenaline-fueled proof that when individual grit and collective focus collide, they can truly defy gravity.

Part 1: WELLBEING
Your students receive their Empowerment Journal and explore wellbeing concepts as they prepare for the ultimate hovercraft challenge.

Part 2: SOLVE A CHALLENGE
Teams apply critical and creative thinking to plan, build and problem-solve throughout the hovercraft design process.

Part 3: SAFETY & HEALTH
Students examine how personal choices, behaviour and environments influence health and safety in their everyday lives.

Part 4: BUILDING WELLBEING
It’s time to reflect in our Empowerment Journals on how attitudes, behaviour and communication impact wellbeing.

Part 5: IDENTITY & BELONGING LIFT-OFF
It’s time to ride! Students lift off and glide, celebrating the shared success of the hovercraft challenge. This high-energy finish strengthens identity and belonging, with students taking home their Empowerment Journal to cement their growth.

FAQS

What is a hovercraft?

A hovercraft is a vehicle that operates by forcing air beneath the craft to create lift, allowing it to glide on a cushion of air. In our program, it only works when students collaborate, communicate, and problem-solve together, engineering both the hovercraft and a strong sense of wellbeing and teamwork.

What space/ equipment do I need to prepare?

One thing only: a large hall space with a polished timber floor or smooth polished concrete. If you are unsure about your floor, you can send us a picture or give us a call to discuss.

We handle the rest, bringing all hovercraft equipment and materials, plus a get-to-keep Empowerment Journal for every student.

Do all of your staff hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)?

Yes, of course. All Ranger Jamie staff hold current, valid Working With Children Checks and complete all required child safety training. We’re happy to provide documentation in advance upon request for your peace of mind and compliance.

What time will the Rangers arrive?

Our Rangers arrive approximately 45 minutes before the session to get everything adventure-ready. If parking is available close to the school hall, it certainly helps with a smooth and efficient setup.

I need a Risk Assessment. Where can I find this?

A comprehensive, fully compliant Risk Assessment is provided upon booking. It’s designed to meet school requirements and support planning and approval processes, and yes, it’s principal-approved.

Will my students have fun?

1,000 YES. And we guarantee you will too.
